2016 WIDR Logo Design Competition

March 1st, 2016

Are you creative?

Are you savvy with programs like Photoshop or Logo Design Studio?

Would you like to see one of your designs on REAL merchandise?

Would you like $100?

Do you love Radio Evolution?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then WIDR needs you!

This year WIDR FM is putting out an open call for designs to be used on our merchandise for the 2016-2017 school year.

Here is everything you need to know about the contest:

JUDGING CRITERIA: Initial entries will be evaluated by the WIDR Director Staff, and judged based on appeal, creativity, content, and marketability. Once the top 5 designs are chosen, they will then be voted on by the public. If your image is selected, we will need the full art in its original file (in layers or vectors) and the font that was used.

  • A file of the design (.jpg or .png)

  • A PDF document with complete contact Information (Full name, Email, and preferred Phone Number), as well as a short description about the inspiration for the design, as well as what medium it would serve best on (T-shirts, bumper stickers, etc.)

Neqriem live on The Basement Show!

June 17th, 2013

Moldy Pie here!

Redbeard and I have had some stellar bands come through the WIDR basement these past few weeks, and tonight’s band was no exception! Kalamazoo’s own Neqriem stopped by The Basement Show just a couple hours ago for some live ground-shaking death metal.

Just in case anyone missed it, it’s available right here through dropbox, and you can preview a track of it from bandcamp.

Have you seen the new bandcamp embedded player? What style!

Don’t forget to tune it to The Basement Show next Monday at 7pm with Reptilian live in the studio giving away a free pair of tickets to their record release party at 411!

Ghost Bunnies Live in the WIDR Basement!

June 11th, 2013

meow. Moldy Pie here!

Who doesn’t love free music? I certainly don’t know. Maybe a few, but they’re silly.

Anyways, last night Redbeard and I had The Ghost Bunnies on The Basement Show. Special thanks to Josh Miller for running a fantastic mix!

Peep it on bandcamp and download it from dropbox.

Greensky Bluegrass on DJ Darwin’s Variety Hour!

June 6th, 2013

meow. Moldy Pie here!

I couldn’t think of a better title. I should also state that their performance and interview has already happened. I hope everyone had a chance to hear it!

Luckily, for the folks who didn’t get to tune in, it’s available right here for ya’ll!
When is the last time exclusive music was posted here…?

Peep it first on bandcamp and download away on dropbox.

In other news, I’ll probably upload a few things from recent Basement Show performances. We’ve got Blank, Statia, The Class Acts, Boring People, and Casey Grooten in the backlog. Check back here sometime soon!

Dead at WIDR – Jake Simmons and the Little Ghosts

November 15th, 2011

Beloved WIDRites — it is time for another Dead at WIDR session — today we are featuring local rockers Jake Simmons and the Little Ghosts — These guys have been working hard on recording a full length this summer, which they are releasing THIS FRIDAY at the Strutt. It’s gonna be a killer time, it’s Friday night and it’s free, so there really isn’t any reason why you ought not go.

Check out a SAMPLE SAMPLE SAMPLE of their session below and download the full set HERE

For more information about the show, you can visit HERE. Thanks for stopping by and kicking some ass, doods.

BTF is almost here!

October 12th, 2011

Hey there WIDRites,

We’re only three days away from Barking Tuna Fest 2011! Everyone at the station is pumped, not just because we’ve got such rockin’, consummate showmen and women coming to party with us, but because so many of you have gone out of your way to show us your love and support. Whether it’s stopping by to get posters for your business, calling the DJs with BTF artist requests, or just yelling at us through car windows that you’re stoked for the show, you’ve heartened us considerably and we can’t wait to hang with you at the show.

As a small favor, if you are coming, would you let us know on Facebook? Night one is here and night two is here. It’s just exciting to see who’s coming and there are quite a few of you that I’ve yet to meet in person, so knowing your mug makes the random hugging less awkward.

If you don’t have your tickets yet, links are as follows: Night 1 – DJ Boone, U.S.S.A., Neil Hamburger, Coma Nova, and Bad Indians and Night 2 – Ty Beat vs. Jaws That Bite vs. Nunca Duerma, Self Says, French Horn Rebellion, Mexicans With Guns, and Orchard Lounge.

For those who’ve been asking, Neil Hamburger will be going on around ten. He’s a big name, but a middle of the night kind of gent, so don’t miss him because of some misguided belief in being fashionably late.

One final note to the fellas who’ve tempted me with offers of marriage, those who show up to BTF will be given preferential treatment once the Odysseus-worthy Ithician suitor trials begin. Just something to think about.

They’re heeeere….and it’s BIG news!

September 8th, 2011

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, WIDRites of all ages, we’ve kept you in suspense long enough. It’ll be October 14th & 15th before we know it and with tickets at $10 in advance and $13 day of show, we know they won’t last long, either online or at The Strutt. So it is with snickering and girlish delight that we present your 2011 Barking Tuna Festival lineup!

Kicking things off on BTF night one will be WIDR’s own DJ diva, DJ Boone. If you haven’t heard her spin, your funky bits haven’t truly grooved.

Next up, we deliver the rock-out-with-your-genitals-of-choice-out audio whiplash that WIDR is known for, with local genre-defying party masters U.S.S.A. (members of The Dead Mavericks). If you don’t know them yet, you will after this night and you’ll never be the same.

And then, when we’re all feeling good and rocked, what are we going to do? BAM! We’re going to give you this guy!
